Mrs. Lois Strother Thornton, 99, Thomson, Georgia entered into eternal rest on March 22, 2024.
Mrs. Lois was born in Lincolnton, Georgia, on April 23, 1924, grew up in Lincolnton and Thomson, graduated from Thomson High School, lived most of her life in Thomson, Georgia. She was Baptist by faith and a member of First Baptist Church, Thomson, Georgia. She was employed 42 years with Southern Bell, and a member of the Salt & Light Sunday School Class taught by Margie Barnett. She enjoyed working in her flowers, arts and crafts, reading and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Charles Thornton, Sr.; her parents William Francis Strother and Gertrude Wilson Strother; her son, Charles Thornton; her daughter, Joyce T. Dent; her son-in-law, Ronnie Goldman; her brother, Albert Strother; her sisters, Harriet Burton, Rebecca Gobble and Eula Hawkins and her sister-in-law, Sadie C. Strother. Mrs. Lois’ is survived by her daughter, Nancy T. Goldman; her son-in-law, Buzzy Dent; her daughter-in-law Josephine Thornton; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; ten great great grandchildren; special niece, Linda Reese and other nieces, nephews and extending family.
Her Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia, and her Funeral Service, being officiated by Dr. David Lambert, will follow in the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m., with the interment at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens following the service. Pallbearers for the services are Chris Thornton, Brad Thornton, Nicholas Goldman, Jeffery Dent, John Dent and Jacob Harmon.
